Pentagon: US military banned from cooperating with Russia

Joint work of Russia and the US against IS will require high-level discussions. US military personnel are prohibited from such cooperation, a Pentagon representative told Sputnik.

Earlier, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, during the annual meeting of foreign military attaches, stated that the Russian Defense Ministry is ready for dialogue with its American colleagues about their assistance in destroying militants in the western regions of Iraq.

"Currently, the scope of our discussions with the Russian side at the military level is essentially to prevent conflicts during our operations," the Pentagon representative said.

“We are not allowed to do real cooperation under the law. So I think such discussions have to take place at the senior leadership level or at the diplomatic level.”

Moscow has called on Washington to stop restricting military contacts with Russia. According to him, the US is giving reasons for not continuing full cooperation in this area.
