Using money from selling cassava to sell drugs, young man gets bitter ending
(Baonghean.vn) - Because of greed, Xau Giang (a Laotian) used money from selling cassava to buy drugs and bring them to Vietnam to deliver to customers.
On January 26, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial against Xau Giang, born in 1994, residing in Bolikhamxay Province (Laos) for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
At the trial, defendant Xau Giang confessed his crime. According to the case file, around April 2023, Xau Giang befriended a woman named Bi Vang (specific background unknown). During the exchange, Bi Vang asked Giang to buy heroin and opium. This man promised Bi Vang that he would inform her when he had the drugs.

On the morning of May 20, 2023, Giang went to the market to buy from an unknown man a package of heroin for 2 million Lao kip and 10 packages of opium for 5 million Lao kip. After receiving the drugs, Giang reported to Bi Vang. This woman asked Giang to take the drugs to Tri Le commune, Que Phong district, Nghe An province, and would pay for the amount.
On the morning of May 21, 2023, Giang walked through the forest to Tri Le commune to deliver drugs to Bi Vang. At about 10:30 a.m. the same day, when he arrived at Huoi Moi village (Tri Le commune), Giang was caught red-handed by the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard Command with 221.35 grams of drugs.
In court, Giang said he used the money from selling cassava on his farm to buy drugs. The defendant also expressed remorse for his wrongdoings.
Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced defendant Xau Giang to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
