According to sources in Libya, French special forces are participating in the fight against IS in this country. Accordingly, a French squad is said to be operating at Benina airport in Benghazi. The French Minister of Defense said that he will soon respond to the media about this issue.
According to Le Monde, special forces squads, along with the French Intelligence Agency DGSE, have been operating in Libya for several months, participating in the US-organized airstrike that killed Iraqi Abu Nabil al-Anbari - the highest leader of IS in Libya - in Derna in November 2015.
In another development, on February 22, the Italian government announced that it would allow US drones to attack targets in Libya from bases in Sicily, southern Italy.
