Landslide in China, 23 people died

A landslide on August 8 occurred in southwestern China, killing more than 20 people, as heavy rain fell on many parts of the country.

At least 23 people were killed and two others were missing after a landslide hit the village of Gengdi in the mountainous province of Sichuan. One person was pulled alive from the rubble, the government said on its official social media account, according to Reuters.

A total of 71 buildings were destroyed in the landslide. A 5 km stretch of road was destroyed, causing an estimated economic loss of 23.9 million USD.
