(Baonghean.vn) - Prolonged rain and floods and sand mining have caused landslides along the banks of the Hieu River - the section passing through Nghia Thinh Commune, Nghia Dan District (Nghe An) - to encroach deep into people's houses, threatening the safety of people's lives and property.

For many years now, 7 households living along the banks of the Hieu River, in Hamlet 1, Nghia Thinh Commune, have always been worried about the increasingly serious threat of landslides and land collapses. Many hectares of land used for growing crops and trees have been swept away by the river.

In particular, due to the influence of the recent tropical depression, heavy rains in Nghia Dan area, combined with sand mining, have caused the Hieu River section through Nghia Thinh commune to be deeply eroded.

Mr. Luu Anh Dao - Hamlet 1, Nghia Thinh Commune said: "Here, every house has had its garden encroached by landslides for several years now, and now it is close to the house. We hope the government will pay attention, so that we can soon be relocated to a new place."

Mr. Pham Van Tuan, Nghia Thinh commune added: "My house has been eroded for 5-6 years now. Before, the garden was far away, now it is only 12 meters from the house. When the flood season comes, I can't sleep at night, afraid that the flood will sweep me away..."

Through discussion, Mr. Pham Van Tan - Vice Chairman of Nghia Thinh Commune People's Committee said: "In response to the above incident, the locality directly went down to grasp the situation, and submitted a report to the district asking for direction, so that people can feel secure in their lives."

» The whole village contributed bamboo to build road embankments to prevent landslides.
