Since the beginning of the year,pig priceon the market has dropped sharply, down to below 60,000 VND/kg. However, the special black pig raised by the people of Nghe An highlands still maintains a high price.

Mr. Hoang Kim Tung in Bai Xa village, Tam Quang commune (Tuong Duong district) has been raising local black pigs for a long time. He said that since the beginning of the year,black pig specialtystill sell at high prices. The characteristic of this breed of black pig is that the lighter the pig, the higher the price, and vice versa, the heavier the pig, the lower the price.

Specifically, pigs weighing 30 kg or less are sold at over 160,000 VND/kg; pigs weighing 30 to 50 kg are priced at 120,000 VND/kg; pigs weighing over 50 kg are priced at 100,000 VND/kg.

However, local black pigs are becoming increasingly rare, as people increasingly switch to raising Mong Cai black pigs and crossbred pigs. Therefore, local black pigs are rarely sold on the market, but are slaughtered by local people.

In Tri Le border commune (district)Que Phong) local black pigs are even sold at higher prices. Mr. Vi Van Cuong - Chairman of Tri Le Commune People's Committee said that currently, there are not many special black pigs raised by local people, so the selling price is still high, the type under 30kg/pig - even with "pig under the armpit" in some places is sold at nearly 200,000 VND/kg, on the contrary, the type of pig over 30kg/pig is priced from 120,000 to 150,000 VND/kg. This price has not decreased compared to before.

According to Mr. Lo Kham Kha - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuong Duong district, the local black pig price is currently still maintained at a common price of 120,000 to 160,000 VND/kg. The reason why black pigs raised by the highlanders are still sold at a high price is because this type of pig is increasingly scarce. Statistics show that currently, the total pig herd ofXiangyangabout 20,000 pigs, of which only about 7,000 are specialty black pigs.

In other districts such as Ky Son, Que Phong, Quy Chau... the number of black pigs raised by local people is not as high as before. The reason is that in many places, people invest in raising Mong Cai pigs and crossbred pigs, which bring higher economic efficiency./.
