According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Türkiye will not under any circumstances take steps to disrupt NATO unity.

...
Türkiye is currently negotiating the purchase of Russian air defense missile systems such as the S-300 and S-400.

However, according to Turkish military experts, Turkey is a sovereign and independent state that can decide for itself with whom and when to cooperate. Türkiye is interested in purchasing Russian weapons, but not because they are compatible with NATO weapons, but because of their high accuracy and reliability.

In an interview with Sputnik, former commander of the Turkish Air Force base and Turkish Aviation Authority, retired Air Force Lieutenant General Erdogan Karakush said:

"There are some NATO members who are dissatisfied with the development of Russian-Turkish relations. After overcoming the crisis in Russian-Turkish relations, some NATO countries called Turkey a "wayward ally" and threatened to block all military and political contacts with Turkey.

In addition to the establishment of Russian-Turkish relations, a role in the growing tension between Türkiye and NATO is the recent termination of the inter-Cypriot talks.

When it comes to buying reliable and highly accurate Russian weapons, it is clear that Türkiye is interested in it and is currently negotiating the purchase of Russian air defense missile systems such as the S-300 and S-400.

Türkiye intends to purchase Russian weapons with its own resources for its national interests. Therefore, NATO's interference in Türkiye's affairs is unacceptable."
