Impersonating a police lieutenant colonel, tricking people into studying at a police academy
With the fake title of police lieutenant colonel, Bui Cong Hung "bragged" about his ability to study at police academy and police service to embezzle money.
On June 29, the Hanoi Court opened an appeal hearing to consider the appeal in the case of Bui Cong Hung (born 1974, from Thanh Hoa) for fraud and property appropriation. Previously, Hung was sentenced to 54 months in prison by the court of first instance.
Claiming to be a Police Lieutenant Colonel working at the Drug Police Team - Hoang Mai District Police - Hanoi, Hung boasted of his ability to "run for admission" to the People's Police High School 1 in Hanoi.

Trusting him, Mr. L's family (living in Thuong Tin district, Hanoi) asked Hung to help their son get into People's Police High School 1 in Hanoi.
Hung agreed on a price of 300 million VND. Mr. L. gave his son's documents to Hung and gave him money many times, but his son was not allowed to go to school, but Hung "bragged".
At the first instance court, Hung stated that he only received 30 million VND, the amount of hundreds of millions was just a calculation of expenses. Hung spent all the money on personal expenses.
Using the same trick, Hung tricked Mr. and Mrs. D. and Ms. Ch. (both residing in Ha Dong district, Hanoi) into asking them to "run" for their children to join the police force in order to steal their money.
Of these two victims, Ms. Ch. was luckier in getting back the money she gave to Hung.
At the appeal hearing, seeing that there were no new circumstances, the panel of judges decided to uphold the original judgment./.
