Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the 21st minute as Man Utd won 2-0 at Burley on the evening of April 23. With this goal, the French striker helped the Old Trafford team stay unbeaten for the 23rd consecutive match in the Premier League, but also cost them another $10.8 million.
The $10.8 million clause was included in the contract when Man Utd signed Martial from Monaco in 2015 for $46.6 million up front. According to this clause, the “Red Devils” had to pay the Ligue 1 team another $10.8 million when he reached the 25-goal mark.
Man Utd will also lose another $10.8 million if Martial makes his 25th appearance for France (he has played 15). The same amount will also be transferred to Monaco if the French striker wins the Ballon d'Or while playing for the "Red Devils".
In his first season at Man Utd, Martial played 49 matches in all competitions, scoring 17 goals. This season, the French striker's appearances have decreased due to the high form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford.
Ibrahimovic suffered an injury, allowing Martial to be named in the starting line-up by Mourinho against Burley. He immediately proved his worth with his seventh goal of the season. The Frenchman last scored against Watford on February 11.
