Crop failure, Tuong Duong mango prices skyrocket
(Baonghean.vn) - Tuong Duong mangoes are popular with many people because of their delicious taste. This year, Tuong Duong mangoes have a poor harvest, and prices have doubled compared to last year.
In the mountainous district of Tuong Duong, Thach Giam is the commune with the largest mango growing area. Every year, when the mango season comes, the villagers carry mangoes to the market or line up on both sides of National Highway 7 to sell to tourists from near and far. However, this year, almost all areas of this commune do not have a single mango tree bearing fruit.

Ms. Mac Thi Da, residing in Cay Me village (Thach Giam commune) said: "Every year at this time, villagers bring hundreds of kilograms of mangoes to sell. But this year, the number of sales can be counted on the fingers. Each household only gets a few hundred thousand at most."

The reason why Tuong Duong mango is popular is because the ripe mango is very sweet and has a characteristic aroma. Moreover, this is a clean fruit that is never sprayed with growth stimulants, so it is popular with many people.

Mangoes failed to harvest, so at the beginning of the season, traders flocked to the communes of Thach Giam, Tam Thai, Xa Luong... to buy. In previous years, mango prices only fluctuated from 20-25 thousand/kg, but this year they exceeded 45-50 thousand/kg. "Every day we searched all over the villages to buy local mangoes, but they were very rare, and many were only worth a few hundred thousand. Don't talk about choosing beautiful or ugly fruits, just buying them is good enough" - said a trader.
Cay Me village (Thach Giam commune) is the village that grows the most native mangoes, but this season, people have had to reluctantly sell other mango varieties at cheap prices. "It seems that this year there are a lot of insects, so there are no mangoes. Every year, each family earns a few million, but this year they are empty-handed," said Ms. Lu Thi Thin.
