Conflict, young man stabbed colleague to death

On June 17, information from Ben Tre Provincial Police said that at 0:30 a.m. on June 17, the Criminal Police force coordinated with the Traffic Police of Ben Tre Provincial Police to pursue and arrest suspect Tran Quoc Viet (28 years old, residing in Soc Son commune, Hon Dat district, Kien Giang province) for murder.

Previously, at around 9:30 p.m. on June 16, at a motel in An Loi hamlet, An Thuy commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre, due to a verbal conflict, Tran Quoc Viet used a knife to stab to death Danh Lanh (24 years old, living in the same district of Hon Dat, Kien Giang province).

On the same day of committing the crime, Viet fled the scene. On the way to escape, he was captured by Ben Tre Provincial Police in the Rach Mieu Bridge area (in An Khanh Commune, Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province).

At the police station, Viet admitted to stabbing Mr. Lanh to death. According to the suspect’s statement, Viet and Mr. Danh Lanh were from the same hometown and worked as boatmen, and both had just returned to the mainland from the sea 4 days ago.

After getting drunk, Danh Lanh went to see Viet to talk about another of their fellow countrymen being beaten that morning.

Viet said he did not know about it and had nothing to do with it, but Lanh had a bad attitude and words towards Viet. Afterwards, Lanh went to a rented room near Viet's place to continue drinking. Angry at Lanh's attitude, Viet went back to his rented room to get a knife and went to the room where Lanh was drinking and stabbed Lanh in the left shoulder, causing the victim's death.

Currently, the Investigation Police Department of Ben Tre Province Police is consolidating the case file and handling the subject according to the provisions of law.
