Bao Yen District Police Investigation Agency has detained a father who, due to a conflict with his wife, cooked poison ivy leaves for his three children to drink, causing one child to die.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Thuong Commune (Bao Yen District, Lao Cai Province) said that at around 10:00 p.m. on April 21, a heartbreaking incident occurred in the area. Due to a conflict with his wife, Ban Van Thang (born in 1988, residing in Xuan Thuong Commune) took poison ivy leaves, put them in a kettle and boiled them, then gave them to his three children, Ban Thi Tuyet (born in 2012), Ban Thi Nhi (born in 2014) and Ban Tuan Hung (born in 2015) to drink.

Although her family discovered her and took her to the emergency room, Ban Thi Nhi died at Bao Yen District General Hospital due to severe poisoning. After receiving emergency care and treatment, Ban Thi Tuyet and Ban Tuan Hung are now in stable health but have not been discharged from the hospital.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the investigation agency of Bao Yen District Police urgently arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.

"Currently, the investigation agency has detained Ban Van Thang for investigation and clarification. The initial cause was determined to be due to Thang and his wife's conflict over the termination of the marriage," the commune leader added.

The case is currently under investigation.
