The 92m long Airlander 10 aircraft was damaged during a flight from Cardington Airport in Bedfordshire, eastern England today.
According to the BBC, the plane crashed into a telegraph pole. "When it landed, it appeared to tip its nose down and hit the ground very hard on the cockpit," mA witness said.
"All crew are safe and there were no injuries," said a spokesman for the manufacturer Hybrid Air Vehicles.
The plane just made its first test flight on August 17.
The Airlander is a hybrid of a plane and an airship that costs more than $30 million and can fly for up to five days on a single manned flight. Its developers say it could be used for surveillance, communications, aid and passenger transport. The Airlander is designed to use less fuel than a plane, but carry heavier cargo than a conventional airship.
