A Veteran's Simple, Easy-to-Use Banana Slicer
This banana slicer can slice many types of soft-stemmed plants and grasses, corn stalks... The machine has a simple structure and principle, easy to use for farmers, designed by a war veteran.
The business owner is Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, a former signal soldier in Military Region 3. He was discharged from the army in 1986 and returned to his hometown to start a business. With a little knowledge of machinery and electronics, he has manufactured many types of machines for agricultural applications such as duckweed choppers, banana slicers and water pumps.

Observing the operation of the machine, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Kien, an expert from the Institute of Invention Research and Technology Exploitation, commented: "The banana-grass cutting machine can cut many types of soft-stemmed plants: banana trees, grasses such as elephant grass, corn stalks... The machine has a simple structure and principle, easy to use for farmers.
The slicing part consists of 3 blades to increase the ability to slice at high speed, helping to push the raw materials out without stagnating in the machine compartment. The price of the machine is cheap, meeting the needs of the market. Besides those advantages, the machine also has some disadvantages such as: it is not effective for hard materials because the blades are easily chipped and damaged; the structure is bulky and not optimal. This is one of the supporting machines in agriculture with high applicability, helping to expand the scale of livestock farming to serve socio-economic development".
As a result of the meeting, the Institute of Invention and Technology Exploitation Research and Thien Thuan Enterprise signed a memorandum of understanding between the two sides. Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, the owner of the enterprise, also expressed his hope to bring the grass-cutting machine closer to farmers, especially households in remote areas and ethnic minorities, to help reduce hardship and increase productivity in the labor process, contributing to socio-economic development.
