The G-Vectoring Control torque control system, first applied to the Mazda6, makes the mid-size sedan more technologically powerful.

Mazda introduced the 2016 version of the Mazda6 mid-size economy sedan. The car received upgrades mainly in technology, the design is still similar to the old version, with only a few small changes that are difficult to detect when observed normally.

Like its younger sibling Mazda3, which the company introduced in Japan last month, the most notable feature is G-Vectoring Control, a torque control technology that helps the car stabilize and avoid losing control when cornering as well as on straight roads. This is the company's new technology, first applied on two sedans.

Basically, G-Vectoring is a technology that automatically adjusts the torque to the wheels, when increasing, when decreasing to make the car corner smoothly and smoothly, responding accurately and safely compared to the steering wheel's steering. For example, when entering a corner, the torque will be reduced to stabilize the car, when in the corner, the torque will begin to recover to help the car pass the corner and accelerate smoothly again.

Other upgrades on the new Mazda6 are the i-Activsense driver assistance technology. Thanks to a new camera, the car can detect pedestrians on the car's runway at average city speeds. The car also has a collision warning function by automatically braking. In addition, i-Activsense has been improved to recognize traffic lights, including speed limit signs, road closures or "Stop". The automatic brake is activated when the car is traveling between 15-160 km/h. In the previous version, the maximum speed for automatic braking was only 150 km/h.

Minor design upgrades are found inside. The new steering wheel, shared with the CX-9, is heated. The monochrome driver information display is replaced with a full-color TFT display. The new Mazda6 also gets a head-up display.

The new Mazda6 is quieter thanks to thicker front window glass, optimized engine and wiper joints to reduce noise, and upgraded door and interior connections for improved airtightness and noise reduction.

The Grand Touring trim adds a Premium package that takes the sedan to a higher level. Customers can choose between black or almond nappa leather seats with titanium stitching and seat piping. LED interior lighting, heated rear seats, and warmer-colored faux-metal accents are also available. Mazda also stitches the steering wheel leather using the same Japanese chidori technology as on the CX-9.

Most manufacturers have dropped the manual transmission in the D segment, but Mazda still keeps it. The 6-speed manual transmission is installed on the Sport and Touring versions. The Grand Touring version has a 6-speed automatic transmission. In the US, tAll versions use a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine for 184 horsepower.

The new Mazda6 and Mazda3 will both hit dealerships this September. The 2017 Mazda6's price has not been revealed yet, while the Mazda3 is priced at around $16,700-$31,400 in Japan.
