Ngoc has a very special family situation. Ngoc's mother, Mrs. Tran Thi Hat (57 years old) is a disabled woman since her youth. That year, while doing community service in the locality, Mrs. Hat was unfortunately hit by a tree and broke her left arm, which had to be amputated. From a normal person, she became disabled.
After the work accident, thinking long term, she decided to "ask" for a child to rely on in her old age. Over the years, the mother and daughter lived in poverty and frugal living. Having no land, Mrs. Hat took on a clerical job for the commune to earn extra income. The main source of income for the mother and daughter was the small allowance and clerical allowance.
Born into a poor and orphaned family, Ngoc was aware of her family's circumstances early on, so she always tried to study hard. Every new school year, Ngoc could not buy nice clothes, complete textbooks, advanced books... like her friends, but Ngoc's academic results were always the pride of her poor mother. Every school year, Ngoc achieved the title of excellent student. During school breaks, especially during the summer, Ngoc often did extra jobs such as washing dishes, serving at restaurants to earn money to support her mother. Ngoc and her mother relied on each other to live in such poverty.

Folklore says “poor and in need”, the hardships have not yet passed, disaster strikes again, 3 years ago, Mrs. Hat discovered that she had a thyroid tumor, her health seriously declined, she had to quit her clerical job. After many times of medical treatment, due to her weak health, her illness became more and more serious.
In early 2019, during a follow-up visit, the doctor said she had thyroid cancer. After a long period of preparation and borrowing money from her relatives, last May, Mrs. Hat had surgery and treatment at the Provincial Oncology Hospital. The days her mother was in the hospital were also the days Ngoc was studying for the upcoming exam, so she studied in a state of "a hundred tangled thoughts".

When Ngoc received the results of the National High School Exam, it was also the time when her mother's cancer entered its final stage. With 26.5 points for admission to block C, Ngoc was admitted to the University of Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
After days of waiting, the admission notice finally reached the poor female student. Many nights, holding the admission notice, Ngoc's tears flowed, mixed with joy and sadness. "My mother is sick, with the family's situation like this, should I go to school or not? If I go to school, who will take care of my mother?" - Ngoc shared.

Having worried about her child for most of her life, despite poverty and hardship, Mrs. Hat always tried her best to give her child a good future. She was extremely happy that Ngoc had passed the exam with high scores, but was helpless because her family was so poor and she herself was seriously ill. Wiping away tears rolling down her cheeks, Mrs. Hat said: “These past few days, both mother and child have been crying, crying because of the difficult family situation, afraid that she would not be able to go to school. I love my child, so I have to try my best, so that my child can go to school with peace of mind.”
Talking about the situation of Mrs. Hat and her children, Mr. Vo Tien Oanh - Secretary of the Party Cell of Hamlet 7, Nghi Tien Commune said: “Mrs. Hat's family is in extremely difficult circumstances, having been a poor household in the commune for many years. Over the past years, with the spirit of helping each other, the neighbors and the locality have paid attention and helped her and her children. Now Mrs. Hat has a serious illness, but her child has passed the university entrance exam. We hope that the community will join hands to help her go to school.”
