Every minute 16 women in the world die from heart disease

More women die from heart disease and stroke each year than from cancer, tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS combined.

Sharing on World Heart Day September 29,Professor Do Doan Loi, Director of the Vietnam Heart Institute, said the number of people with heart disease is increasing and the age is getting younger.For every four people over 25 years old, at least one is at risk of cardiovascular disease.It is noteworthy that heart disease in women is on the rise.

Every year, more women die from heart disease and stroke than from cancer, tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS combined. Every minute, more than 16 women die from cardiovascular disease. The disease is now not only found in older women but is also common in women under 50. The number of deaths from myocardial infarction in the under 50 age group is twice that of men.

According to Professor Loi, lIndustrialized and urbanized lifestyles make people less active, drink a lot of alcohol, and eat fast food that is high in fat and cholesterol but low in fiber and vegetables. Life pressure and frequent stress also contribute to poor cardiovascular health and increased risk of disease.

"Each person can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by up to 80% if they eat a healthy diet combined with 150 minutes of physical activity per week, stop smoking, lose weight, lower cholesterol and blood pressure," Professor Loi shared.
