Special gift to welcome President Putin to Vietnam

During these days, the Vietnamese people solemnly celebrate the 100th anniversary of the great October Revolution in Russia and are about to welcome Russian President Putin to Vietnam to attend the APEC Summit in Da Nang.

The poetry collection "Waiting for you to come back" will be released on November 3 in Hanoi.

The October Revolution in Russia exactly a century ago opened a new era in human history, building a new society, eliminating the exploitation of the old regime, and realizing the dream of a prosperous, peaceful and happy life around the world.

After the success of the October Revolution, the Soviet people had to go through many hardships and challenges in the next two decades to protect the achievements of the Soviet State and government. But there was no more fierce challenge than the great war of national defense that the Soviet people had to wage for nearly 5 years, from 1941 to 1945, against the invading Nazi Germany.

More than 27 million sons of the Soviet people fell, and the infrastructure was almost completely destroyed.

From the blood and fire of war, the Soviet people achieved victory, liberated the Soviet Union and contributed to the liberation of Europe. In that brutal war, the Soviet people made boundless sacrifices, demonstrating the noblest qualities of the Russian character.

All of that was reflected in Soviet war literature, honored as Patriotic War Literature.

One of the famous works of poetry of the Patriotic War is the poem Waiting for You to Come Back by poet Konxtantin Ximonov. This poem was translated into Vietnamese by poet To Huu in 1947, and had a special influence and significance on the resistance war against the French of the Vietnamese people.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the great October Revolution in Russia, the Information and Communication Publishing House respectfully presents to readers a collection of poems including 180 poems by 24 poets of the Patriotic War poetry that have been selected to be translated into Vietnamese, entitled Selected Poems of the Patriotic War 1941-1945: Waiting for You to Come Back.

The two translators Nguyen Huy Hoang and Nguyen Van Minh have painstakingly selected and translated 180 poems by 24 most representative authors in the poetry of the Patriotic War such as Ximonov, Onga Bergolls, Tvardovsky, Anna Akhmatova, Evtusenko...

The poems in this selected collection have truly expressed the bloody war; and through them the Russian character is revealed in the clearest and deepest way. It is cruel, tragic, but heroic and optimistic, as the aesthetician Borev said: "it is a sorrowful cry of sacrifice and loss, but at the same time a glorious song of immortality". Readers who love Russian poetry will recognize that many poems in this collection have been set to music, becoming favorite songs not only in Russia but also in Vietnam.

Hopefully the collection of poems will bring the Vietnamese people an understanding and sympathy for the Soviet people's war to defend their country and Soviet literature.

The poetry collection "Waiting for you to come back" will serve as a bridge between Russian literature and Vietnamese literature, contributing to strengthening the strong friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.
