Recently, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the selectionEnglishis the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
Accordingly, English will be the third subject of this exam, in addition to the two compulsory subjects of Math and Literature.
This information has received the attention of many students, teachers and parents in the city.

List of exam subjects and exam format
This is the first exam to implement the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on adding a third subject to the 10th grade high school entrance exam. The selection of the third subject is decided by the Department of Education and Training of each province and city.
Thus, the entrance exam for grade 10 high school (mass) in the 2025-2026 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will have 3 subjects: Math, Literature and English.
Regarding the exam format, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training informed that the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is the first entrance exam according to the 2018 general education program, so the exam structure will be different from last year. Specifically:
The structure of the Literature exam consists of 2 parts:
Part 1 (5 points): Reading and writing a paragraph
Question 1 (3 points): Reading comprehension
Question 2 (2 points): Write a paragraph
Part 2 (5 points) Read and understand argumentative or informational texts and write social argumentative essays.

In which, the assessment basis is the requirements to be achieved in reading comprehension and writing in the 2018 General Education Program - Literature subject at secondary school level, mainly grades 8 and 9. The test is built according to the orientation of integrating the assessment of reading comprehension and writing ability, the content in the writing section is related to the text in the reading comprehension section.
The structure of the Math exam includes 7 lessons:
Exercise 1 (1.5 points) has the format "Given the function y = ax2". Candidates draw the graph (P) of the above function and find the points belonging to (P) that satisfy the given conditions.
Exercise 2 (1 point) has the format "Given the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0". Candidates find the conditions for the equation to have solutions; apply Viete's formula, calculate the value of the expression related to the solutions.
Lesson 3 (1.5 points) is a practical math problem related to probability and statistics.
Exercise 4 (1 point) requires candidates to write an expression A representing a certain quantity x in a real-life problem, and at the same time find the value of x so that A satisfies a certain condition.
Lesson 5 (1 point) is a practical math problem related to geometry such as perimeter, area of triangle, quadrilateral, arc length, circumference of circle, area of circle, circular sector, segment, ring... Lateral area, total area, volume of solids in reality...
Lesson 6 (1 point) is a practical math problem related to equations, inequalities, and systems of first-degree equations with two variables.
Lesson 7 (3 points) is a plane geometry problem consisting of 3 questions: Prove that 4 points are on a circle, the elements are parallel, perpendicular, and equal; Prove that the formula, the elements are equal, collinear, and concurrent; Calculate the length, perimeter, area, angle measure...
Of which, geometry and measurement account for 45%, numbers and algebra 40%, statistics and probability 15% of the exam.
The structure of the English exam consists of 4 parts:
Part 1 (1.0 point) consists of 4 questions, testing phonetic knowledge.
Part 2 (3.0 points) from question 5 to question 16, testing vocabulary, grammar, communication
Part 3 (3.0 points) from question 17 to question 28 includes reading and filling in the blanks; reading comprehension and answering questions.
Part 4 (4.0 points) from questions 29 to 40 includes writing the correct form of the word; writing appropriate phrases according to the given information; writing sentences.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that the English exam aims to assess language proficiency not only based on students' memorized knowledge of grammar and vocabulary; it also requires assessing the ability to understand and apply language knowledge in appropriate contexts, especially real-life situations.
The Department also reminded schools that this year's English exam will have two new questions on writing appropriate phrases based on given information. This question tests the ability to read dictionary notes to find linguistic information and apply knowledge.
According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the deadline for departments of education and training to announce the third exam subject is March 31.
