A series of airlines avoid flying over the Sinai Peninsula
Europe's two largest airlines, Germany's Lufthansa and France's Air France-KLM, and the United Arab Emirates' Emirates, have decided to temporarily avoid flying over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula while waiting to clarify the cause of the Russian plane crash in the area.

Spokespeople for the three airlines said the decision was made for flight safety reasons.
After the tragedy of the Russian civil aviation industry, a group of militants linked to the self-proclaimed "Islamic State" (IS) in Egypt admitted to shooting down the plane. However, Russia denied the information and said that the IS's claim of shooting down the Russian civil aircraft was entirely based on political motives.
