Mourinho was disappointed when referee Clattenburg did not award Man Utd a penalty for the collision between Jon Flanagan and Matteo Darmian in the match on October 29. After the break, he still appeared in the coaching area but was asked to move to the stands. After that, Mourinho continued to be escorted to the technical area. The 53-year-old coach refused to answer the press after the match.
The 0-0 draw with Burnley was Man Utd's fourth consecutive game without a win and they have slipped to eighth in the Premier League with 15 points, eight points behind the leaders.
In November 2015, while managing Chelsea, Mourinho was banned for one match and fined $48,929 for entering the referee’s dressing room after a match to criticize them and refusing to leave when asked. At that time, referee Jon Moss was the one who complained to the FA, accusing the Portuguese coach of insulting him and his colleagues during halftime of Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham.
Mourinho was also fined $61,161 for saying the referee was a coward who did not award a penalty to Chelsea in their 3-1 defeat to Southampton last October. At the time, Mourinho was warned that if he repeated his behaviour within the next 12 months, he would be banned from the stadium, but that period has now passed.
