Drug trafficking, brave deputy party cell secretary sentenced to 7 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 9, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of illegal drug trafficking against Gia Ba Co (born in 1983, residing in Dooc May commune, Ky Son).

At the end of March 2016, a man named Cuong met Co and ordered 7 packages of heroin. On March 30, 2016, Co went to Laos and found a person who agreed to sell him 7 packages of heroin for 24.5 million. Co informed Cuong that he had found the goods and agreed on a price. The Laotian had 10 more packages of heroin to sell, Co asked Cuong if he would buy them. Cuong agreed to buy them all.

Around midnight on March 31, Gia Ba Co and a Laotian brought the drugs to the pre-arranged location to deliver them to Cuong, but were discovered and caught red-handed by the Na Loi Border Guard Station. Cuong and the Laotian escaped, while Gia Ba Co was arrested with 17 packages of pink pills (3,400 pills) in his shirt pocket.

At the trial, Gia Ba Co sincerely admitted his crime and hoped to receive leniency from the law so that he could soon return to rebuild his life, take care of and raise his two children with his wife.

Before being arrested, Gia Ba Co was a contract officer of the commune, in charge of policy work and Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell of Huoi Vieng village. Gia Ba Co was also awarded a certificate of merit by the Nghe An Border Guard Command for his achievements in border protection work.

“Because I was too greedy. Now I have lost everything, I can no longer be a cadre, and I have been expelled from the Party. I am very remorseful. I promise to reform myself well, and after I am released from prison I will never reoffend again,” Gia Ba Co pleaded before the bar.

Considering the drug content and nature after appraisal as well as other mitigating circumstances, applying point m, clause 2, Article 194 of the Penal Code, the People's Court sentenced Gia Ba Co to 7 years in prison.
