Floods threaten western districts of Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) - By 9am on October 10, mountainous districts of Nghe An were experiencing heavy rain, many areas were isolated by floods. The risk of flash floods and landslides is very high.

Mr. Hoang Quang Tiep - Chairman of Chau Tien Commune People's Committee confirmed that there is 1 missing child in the commune. That is the case of Lang Duc Duy (born 2013) residing in Pat village. In addition, the commune currently has 7 households severely flooded. Early this morning, the District People's Committee mobilized military units, police and local forces to Chau Tien commune to rescue and help people move their belongings.

Also in Quy Hop district, on National Highway 48C, the section passing through Bac Son commune, rocks, soil, and trees from the embankment fell down, completely blocking this traffic route.

In Tuong Duong district, Mr. Pham Trong Hoang - Secretary of the District Party Committee informed: Since last night, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee have urged forces to be on duty in areas at risk of landslides.

Accordingly, all members of the District Party Committee were assigned to the communes to support the people. In Tuong Duong district, there are 2 communes at high risk of landslides, Yen Tinh and Luong Minh. In particular, Yen Tinh commune often experiences flash floods and flash floods at the Secondary School. In Luong Minh commune, the area is located between 2 large hydroelectric projects, Ban Ve and Nam Non. Notably, there are currently 24 households living in areas at high risk of landslides, 6 households in danger.

“The forces are still on duty here and ready to support the people,” Mr. Pham Trong Hoang added.

People in Thach Ngan, Yen Khe, and Luc Da communes of Con Cuong district are extremely worried because of the prolonged rain and the rapid rise in river and stream water. Many sections of the road from Yen Khe commune to Mon Son commune are heavily flooded, and the Moi stream overflow bridge is frozen.

As of 10am this morning, Con Cuong, Tuong Duong, Que Phong, and Quy Chau districts were completely without power.
