Buying drugs for gradual use, 'addict' gets 12 years in prison

According to the indictment, on June 8, 2021, Kha Van Trong (born in 1995), residing in Xop Thap village, Huu Lap commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An province, rented a car to go from Muong Xen town, Ky Son district to Tien Tieu village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district to buy drugs. Here, Trong bought from an unknown man 2 bags of synthetic drugs and 1 block ofheroinwith the amount of 5,000,000 VND.

After buying the drugs, Trong continued to rent a car to return but was discovered by the Ky Son District Police working group and caught red-handed, confiscating the above evidence.

On June 9, 2021, the Council opened the seal to determine the sample weight for appraisal and determined that the total weight of the seized exhibits from Kha Van Trong was 44.7 grams.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment and said he had been addicted to drugs for a long time and the purpose of buying the drugs was to use them gradually.

In addition to the 12-year prison sentence, the defendant Trong was also sentenced by the People's Court to confiscate a mobile phone used as a tool and means to commit the crime.
