Applying science and technology to production, in recent years, vegetable growers in Quynh Luong commune have drilled thousands of wells in their fields, installed irrigation systems, and brought electricity to the fields... however, in times of drought like this, onion growers here are also struggling. According to Mr. Ho Van Luu (49 years old) - a long-time onion farmer in Hamlet 1, Quynh Luong Commune: To cope with the hot weather, onion growers must increase the number of times they water their fields and extend the duration of each watering session, to ensure enough water for the onions to grow well. Many families have not installed a sprinkler system, so they have to carry water pipes to water the fields. On sunny days, people have to go to the fields to spray and water about 5-6 times a day. People water their vegetables at noon, the weather is hot, the soil is sandy, the water is absorbed as soon as it is watered. According to people, newly planted vegetable and onion areas, the plants are still young, so they need to be watered more, if there is not enough water, the plants will wither or become stunted, not grow. In the hot midday sun, some households still harvested scallions to sell to traders in time. Many other households chose to go to work at midnight to avoid the sun, and by 6-7am they had finished harvesting their onion fields. Photo: Huy Thu
Working in the hot sun, in the fields without shade, people here have set up temporary tents next to their fields, each house has a makeshift roof made of canvas, tarpaulin... to shelter from the sun. Photo: Huy Thu

Some households cannot set up temporary shelters, so they have to bring umbrellas and chairs to the fields to sit and watch the water pump to irrigate the onions. Photo: Huy Thu
Although one does not have to carry a hose to irrigate the fields, sitting by the water pump waiting to open and close the pipes in the hot sun is quite tiring. Some people put their motorbikes up to block the sun and fell asleep in the onion field. Photo: Huy Thu
Thanks to the hard work of the people, despite the hot weather, the onion fields in Quynh Luong commune are still green and promising a bumper crop. Photo: Huy Thu
