The US is only ready to provide security for Ukraine outside NATO.
Ahead of the summit in Alaska, the US said it was only ready to ensure security for Ukraine, if those requests were not related to NATO.

According to RIA Novosti on August 14, Politico quoted a reliable source saying that US President Donald Trump agreed to ensure security for Ukraine, but on the condition that these things were not related to NATO.
“President Trump said he would only make such a commitment if the effort did not involve NATO,” the article said.
Earlier, CNN quoted European diplomats as saying that the US leader supported the idea of providing Kiev with security guarantees, including from the US. Later, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot also made a similar statement.
On August 13, two days before the summit between the US and Russian leaders in Alaska, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held an online meeting on the Ukraine issue. The meeting's goal was to reach a consensus on the West's position ahead of the upcoming talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Berlin to attend the event. First, a video conference between European leaders took place, with the participation of European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and President Zelensky. This was followed by an online conversation with President Trump, European leaders and the head of the Ukrainian government.
Observers say the meeting is politically and practically insignificant. Europe, on the one hand, is showing support for Washington and Moscow's diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis, but in reality the European Union is undermining them.
