US criticizes Brazil and China's peace plan for Ukraine
US Secretary of State criticizes and opposes Brazil and China's vision of a political solution for Ukraine.
According to TASS, at a press conference in New York on September 27 (local time), US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the US opposes the vision of Brazil and China on a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
Commenting on the peace plan presented by Brasilia and Beijing over the objections of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US Secretary of State Blinken said: “A peace plan in which the aggressor gets everything it wants, and the victim has no way to defend its interests, is not a recipe for lasting peace, and certainly not the only recipe.”
Mr. Blinken said that from the US perspective, any proposal or plan based on the principles of the United Nations Charter, especially territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence, is worthy of attention. “We will consider and evaluate any proposal made on this basis,” Mr. Blinken affirmed.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken added that Ukraine has told the United States about its “plan for victory” in a military conflict with Russia, and Washington is carefully studying this plan, and what additional steps the US or other partners of Ukraine can take to help Kiev succeed.
According to the US Secretary of State, President Joe Biden has “the intention of ensuring that Ukraine has everything it needs” to successfully confront Russia militarily.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, at a meeting with Brazilian President Celso Amorim’s special representative in New York, announced that countries in the southern hemisphere have established a “Friends of Peace” platform to resolve the Ukraine crisis. According to Wang, this initiative represents “the efforts of China, Brazil and countries in the southern hemisphere to achieve peace.”
The Chinese diplomat added that “Friends of Peace” is not a closed group, but an open platform; “it does not strive for competition and confrontation, but for comprehensive dialogue.”
Ukrainian President Zelensky sharply criticized and called the Brazilian and Chinese plans “destructive.” Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Zelensky could not criticize the peace initiatives of China and Brazil, “because the West will decide about Kiev.”
