US could escalate Ukraine conflict in 2024 election
(Baonghean.vn) - Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council (Upper House) of Russia Konstantin Kosachev said that the US could aggravate the Ukraine conflict in 2024 if one of the parties needs more votes related to the ongoing presidential race in this country.
“This is a very dangerous situation, because the Americans are not afraid to use foreign policy in the competition between parties. If one of the parties feels the need to escalate the situation in Ukraine to gain more votes in the elections, they will do so. So the fact is that the presidential election in the United States, which will culminate in 2024, could be a terrible, if not catastrophic, event. I cannot guarantee that there will be an escalation, but the risk is obvious. The behavior of the Americans will be unpredictable,” he said in response to a question about the impact of the US presidential election on the conflict.
According to Mr. Kosachev, further escalation of the military conflict through the use of heavy weapons could increase the possibility of nuclear use. "Fortunately, we have not reached that threshold. However, the imminent danger is very high," the Deputy Speaker of the Russian Senate emphasized.
According to the senator, Washington persuaded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to abandon any negotiations with Russia last year and has no plans to return to the negotiating path. "The negotiations began in March last year, but were hampered by unprecedented external influence on Ukraine. Then, by decree, President Zelensky banned himself and all other Ukrainian authorities from participating in such negotiations. This is, of course, a decision made by the United States.
