(Baonghean.vn) - On October 22, US President Donald Trump announced that he had put US military and border patrol forces on high alert as a caravan of migrants, more than half of whom were Hondurans, was heading towards the US, and considered this a national emergency.

President Trump also announced that the US will begin cutting aid to a series of Central American countries including Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

In a series of tweets, Mr. Trump wrote: “So sad, look at the Mexican Police and Military not being able to stop the Caravan heading to the Southern Border of the United States. I have alerted the Border Patrol and the U.S. Military that this is a National Emergency.”

Another tweet read: “Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador cannot do their job of stopping the flow of people leaving their countries and entering the United States illegally. We will begin cutting off, or significantly reducing, the massive amounts of foreign aid to them.”

However, President Trump did not detail the activities that his administration will carry out. Representatives of the White House, the US Border Patrol and the Pentagon have not yet made any statements on the above information.

Thousands of mostly Honduran migrants gathered in the Mexican border city of Tapachula over the weekend after crossing the Guatemalan border.

Immediately, President Trump threatened to close the US-Mexico border if the migrant caravan continued to advance, and issued a warning to the Mexican government to find a solution to end this situation./.
