How does the US intend to 'strangle' Russia's Nord Stream-2?

Associates of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson are working to try to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the Washington Examiner reported, citing a US State Department official.

"Nord Stream 2 will pass through Danish waters, which could become a major political and legal obstacle that will put a brake on the construction of the pipeline," Assistant Secretary of State Aaron Mitchell told the Senate Subcommittee on Foreign Relations.

According to the diplomat, the new pipeline will concentrate 75% of Russian gas supplies to Europe and this fact does not correspond to the interests of Europe and the United States.

Earlier, the Danish Parliament approved a bill allowing a ban on the construction of "Nord Stream-2" in the country's territorial waters.

Several countries also oppose Nord Stream 2, including the United States and Ukraine. Kiev fears losing revenue from transiting Russian gas, while Washington hopes to export liquefied natural gas to Europe.
