US suddenly increases 'lethal weapons' support for Ukraine
The US Senate has proposed in 2020 to increase funding to Ukraine by $300 million to strengthen the defense capabilities of the armed forces and expand assistance in security policy, - as the Embassy of Ukraine in the US announced on Thursday.
The US Senate Armed Services Committee approved the draft bill on the “US Budget for International Defense Requirements for 2020”, which mandates the Pentagon to allocate $300 million to provide security assistance to Ukraine, which is $50 million more than the current amount,” - the Ukrainian embassy said in a statement.
The embassy confirmed that $100 million should be “set aside for lethal weapons.”
"According to the document, the proposal extends to directing US assistance to strengthening the defense capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including by sending coastal defense means and anti-ship missiles," - the statement said.
