South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump have agreed to continue to put pressure and apply strong sanctions on North Korea following its Hwasong-15 missile launch.

That was the content of a phone call lasting more than an hour between the two senior leaders of the US and South Korea that took place on November 30, one day after North Korea launched a Hwasong-15 ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan.

“The two leaders agreed to maintain their basic stance of imposing sanctions and pressure on North Korea until it voluntarily abandons its nuclear and missile development,” Park Soo-hyun, a spokesman for the South Korean president, said at the presidential office.

According to Yonhap News, during a phone call with President Donald Trump, South Korean President Moon Jae-in also highly appreciated the quality of the Hwasong-15 missile but was not sure if the missile reached the high-tech level as North Korea claimed.

“The missile launched yesterday was certainly the most advanced in all aspects ever, but it is uncertain whether North Korea has secured the technology to develop it into a missile with a nuclear warhead,” President Moon Jae-in said.

The senior South Korean leader also emphasized that the task Seoul and Washington are facing now is to find every way to prevent North Korea from developing nuclear and missile technology and forcing it to completely abandon it.

President Donald Trump affirmed that the United States always supports the enhancement of South Korea's defense capabilities and reiterated Washington's commitment to defend South Korea. The two also discussed the next steps in dealing with North Korea's missile tests, including "how to put the greatest pressure on this country."

“The two presidents reiterated their commitment to strengthening defense capabilities and the defense alliance, and expressed their determination to strongly deal with North Korea at all costs to return it to a nuclear-free state,” the South Korean presidential office said in a statement.

A day earlier, at the United Nations Security Council, the US declared that North Korea would be completely destroyed if Pyongyang did not reconsider its missile and nuclear activities that could lead to war.
