Russian, Chinese and North Korean submarine activity in the Pacific has tripled since 2008 and the United States must respond accordingly, said Admiral Philip Davidson, commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command.

In a speech to the Senate on February 12, Admiral Philip Davidson said that in addition to the US, there are about 400 submarines in the world, 75% of which are in the Indo-Pacific region, including 160 submarines from Russia, China and North Korea.
"While these three countries are increasing their capabilities, the US will eliminate them faster than it can replace them with new submarines... Potential adversary submarine activity has tripled since 2008, which requires the US to maintain its superiority," Davidson said.
He noted that not only the submarine fleet must be increased, but also anti-submarine systems, including P-8 Poseidon aircraft and anti-submarine systems, as well as ammunition.
