According to RIA Novosti on October 3, Politico quoted unnamed advisers to US President Joe Biden as saying that the US and Israel are discussing the possibility of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacking pro-Iranian forces and units of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Yemen and Syria in response to Iran's missile attacks on Israel.

“The US is actively discussing with Israel how to respond to Iran’s missile attack, which could include a military strike. Among the possible options being considered are Israeli strikes against Iranian-backed forces or directly against IRGC forces in Yemen or Syria,” Politico said.

Sources note that the US wants Israel to have a limited response to Iran's missile attacks. At the same time, according to Politico, President Joe Biden now has much less opportunity to influence the course of events in the Middle East due to the US's failure to successfully resolve instability in the region. It seems that Washington has weakened its position here.

CNN quoted a senior official in the US leader's administration as saying that President Joe Biden expects Israel to have a balanced response to missile attacks from Iran to avoid a full-scale war in the Middle East.

“President Biden hopes that Israel will take a cautious approach that allows it to both maintain its right to retaliate and avoid actions that could trigger further retaliation and all-out war in the region,” CNN said.

However, according to this official, the US does not prevent Israel from retaliating.

Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel on October 1 in response to Tel Aviv’s recent series of attacks targeting senior leaders of Hezbollah, Hamas and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran had “made a grave mistake” and would “pay the price,” raising the risk that all sides could be drawn into a full-blown conflict.
