America shocked by female student shooting in school
The February 1 school shooting in California has left many Americans fearful because the suspect is a 12-year-old girl.
CBS News quoted police as saying that the incident occurred at Salvador Castro Middle School near Los Angeles. The suspect is currently in custody.

According to CBS News, police received a distress call at 9am saying: "Medics, shots fired just occurred... possibly one shot, one student injured, another student may have been shot."
Commander Robert Arcos of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Operations Bureau described it as "everyone's worst nightmare."

Police believe the shooter was a 12-year-old girl. "One of the main tasks is... figuring out how someone that young got access to a weapon," said Los Angeles school police chief Steve Zipperman.
"I guarantee if we find out it is an adult in the family then appropriate prosecution procedures will be taken."
Two older students in a mixed-age class were shot, one in the head. Three others suffered minor injuries.
Police quickly moved in, searching neighboring classrooms for any other weapons. Students were asked to stay in class for the rest of the day.
Many parents rushed to the school after hearing about the incident but were forced to wait at a nearby football field.

"Watching the shooting on TV, and now it's happening here. It's scary, and the world is crazy right now," one parent said.
Doctors said one male student was shot in the head but fortunately no vital organs were affected. They expect him to make a full recovery. Another victim is in stable condition.
Police have not yet determined a motive, and they are continuing to question witnesses.
