US accuses Russia of harassing Western diplomats

The US State Department said on June 27 that harassment and surveillance of its diplomatic staff in Moscow has increased significantly and that Secretary of State John Kerry recently raised the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to the ministry's spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudea, Mr. Kerry mentioned this issue to President Putin on June 24 and the US side considered this serious.

According to Ms. Trudeau, harassment of US diplomatic staff by Russian security and traffic police has become a problem over the past two years, but did not provide details about the incidents or why the US raised the issue with President Putin.

Ms. Trudeau also said that embassies of other Western countries also reported similar acts against diplomatic staff stationed in Moscow.
