US refuses to buy Russian hypersonic missile technology
US officials say there is no reason to consider buying Russian weapons because Washington holds an advantage in missile technology.
"The United States holds a major competitive advantage over Russia in developing, testing and safely deploying missile technologies," an unnamed US administration official said on September 7, referring to information that Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to sell his most advanced hypersonic missile to his US counterpart Donald Trump.
The US official did not answer questions about the arms control treaties between Washington and Moscow, and affirmed that the US government would not comment on the content of conversations between President Donald Trump and world leaders.

The leaders of Russia and the United States discussed in June how to check the number of modern Russian weapons, including hypersonic missile systems, and add them to arms control treaties, when meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Japan.
"I told Donald: If you want, we will sell some of these weapons and we can balance everything," President Putin said on September 5, saying the White House boss rejected the offer on the grounds that Washington was developing similar weapons.
The Russian president also announced that the country would develop missiles banned under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in response to the US test of a ground-launched cruise missile on August 18. However, Mr. Putin affirmed that Moscow would not deploy them unless Washington acted first, while warning of the threat from the US missile shield planned to be deployed in Japan and South Korea.
