Forecast of natural disasters is complex and unusual.
In 2021, the country had 12 storms and tropical depressions; 326 thunderstorms, tornadoes, heavy rains; 170 floods, flash floods, landslides; 139 earthquakes; 403 dangerous landslides. Although it has decreased sharply compared to 2020, the country still had 108 deaths and missing people due to natural disasters, with economic damage of over 5,200 billion VND.
Despite many efforts, the work of disaster prevention and control and search and rescue in 2021 still has many shortcomings. The ability to respond to major natural disasters is still passive and confused; the resilience of infrastructure is low, not meeting the requirements against the devastation of storms and floods; equipment for disaster prevention and control and search and rescue work is still limited; resources for overcoming consequences only meet about 20-30% of actual needs...Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh stated: “A part of the people and the government are still limited, subjective, and careless, leading to unfortunate losses, especially human losses. The PCTT apparatus at all levels is not strong enough and lacks synchronization. PCTT and TKCN work has not met practical requirements, especially improving the capacity of PCTT and TKCN teams and investing in modern equipment and means to serve disaster response and TKCN work.”

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh requested departments, branches and localities to proactively prepare plans for natural disaster prevention early. |
In 2022, from the beginning of the year until now, the total damage caused by natural disasters is estimated to have reached 2,400 billion VND, nearly half of the economic damage caused by natural disasters in the whole year of 2021.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this year there is a possibility of strong storms appearing irregularly with about 12-14 storms and tropical depressions active in the East Sea. Rainfall tends to increase nationwide, with a high possibility of extreme rain. Natural disasters continue to develop very complicatedly and abnormally.
Proactively take early measures to prevent and combat natural disasters
“We need to strongly shift from passive response to proactive prevention, improve the quality of forecasting, warning and monitoring, monitornatural disasters. Strengthening the capacity of command and direction in response, improving the capacity of search and rescue, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property. Continuing to promote communication, raising awareness; strengthening the application of science and technology, international cooperation in PCTT & TKCN", Comrade Le Van Thanh emphasized, after listening to opinions and recommendations from localities, departments, branches and representatives of a number of international organizations.
