In recent days, male student Dau Huy Thinh (born in 2000) was still happy when he learned that his national high school exam score was 24.9 points, including 10 points in English. This was also the only 10 point in Foreign Language in Nghe An.

Huy Thinh said that this year's Foreign Language exam was quite difficult, especially the two reading comprehension sections which had many confusing answers, combined with difficult vocabulary, so he was not very sure about a few questions after finishing them. Even when the Ministry of Education and Training announced the answers right after the exam, Thinh checked and compared the results and found that he was correct but still could not be sure of getting a perfect score, until the official scores were announced.

Thinh said that to get good results like today, it is not only based on his love but also thanks to his efforts to practice every day; the encouragement of his parents and teachers. "I always keep in mind that: to learn English well, it is necessary to have a long-term process, accumulate knowledge as well as have early investment" - the 18-year-old boy shared.

Although I have loved English since middle school, there were times when I felt that studying was difficult, discouraged, and even wanted to give up. “Luckily, at times like that, I was always encouraged by everyone. When I was at home with my parents and sisters, when I was in high school and living alone away from home, I was cared for and encouraged by my homeroom teacher and classmates. Thanks to that, I quickly adapted to the new environment and caught up with my classmates,” Thinh confided.

Talking about his class, Thinh is very proud that his English class had 16/25 students who scored over 25 points in the recent National High School Exam. Among them was Thinh's close classmate Nguyen Phuong Thao - the valedictorian of block D with 26.6 points.

Regarding how to learn English well, Thinh shared the "secret" of learning how to memorize. If you can't remember it after one time, then study it 10 times, if you can't remember it after 10 times, then study it 20 times. In addition, this male student also practices pronunciation, listening and speaking every day. Although he admits that he has the advantage of studying in an English-specialized environment, Thinh is not subjective and does not review before the National High School Exam.

“I was selected to be part of the national English competition team, so I had the opportunity to practice more thoroughly than the others. After winning the Encouragement Prize in the national competition, I spent a lot of time reviewing Math and Literature. Of course, I did not forget to review English exam questions to consolidate my knowledge, especially 2 weeks before the exam,” Thinh said.

Sharing about his future choices, Thinh said that before the National High School Exam, he had applied to study abroad and was accepted and awarded scholarships by many universities in the US. After careful consideration, Thinh decided to study finance and auditing at the University of Nebraska Lincoln (USA) - where he received a scholarship of more than 50% of his tuition. He is currently completing the final procedures to go to the US this coming August.
