NATO has decided not to attend the Moscow Security Conference but remains committed to continuing dialogue with Russia, a senior alliance official said on Wednesday.

"We received an invitation to participate in the Moscow Security Conference, but the experience of the previous conference was not constructive and is unlikely to advance our dialogue. Taking into account the conditions for participation set by Moscow this year, NATO does not expect to be present at this event, while maintaining its commitment to dialogue with Russia," the official said.

“NATO is committed to dialogue with Russia to clearly communicate its position, reduce risks and increase transparency,” he explained.

“We continue to strive for a constructive relationship. In this spirit, we are in constant and regular dialogue with Russia at many levels. This includes meetings of the NATO-Russia Council in January and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, most recently in Munich in February,” the NATO official said.

He also stated that "the Deputy Secretary General continues to have regular dialogue with Russian diplomats". "We also support the military line of communication: the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee and the Supreme Commander of NATO in Europe have direct contacts with the Chief of the Russian General Staff," the interlocutor told the news agency.
