Russia thwarts Ukrainian terrorist plot in Moscow suburbs
Russia's FSB reported that in the Moscow region they had prevented a terrorist attack planned by Ukrainian special services against one of the heads of a defense industry enterprise. According to the plan, they intended to use a homemade bomb planted in his car to detonate it.
"The Russian Federal Security Service has prevented a terrorist act in the Moscow region, planned by Ukrainian special services against one of the heads of a defense industry enterprise of the Russian Federation that produces products for the Russian Defense Ministry," the Russian security service said in a statement.
"As a result of the measures taken, seven Russian citizens living in the Moscow and Sverdlovsk regions and the Perm Territory were detained, including three minors involved in organizing surveillance of the parking lot of the intended assassin, as well as in the production of homemade explosive devices from components obtained from the hiding place and placed under the specific car to carry out the explosion," the FSB noted.
According to the FSB, the activities of the criminals were coordinated by the special services of Ukraine through foreign Internet messages, which is confirmed by information in the communication devices seized from the detainees.
"Currently, the group members are confessing and cooperating with the investigation," the special agency stressed.
The FSB noted that the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Russia in the Moscow region has initiated and launched an investigation into a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (committing a terrorist act as part of a group of people by prior agreement).
