Going to Hanoi to study the language to work abroad, Vi Van Hao saw that there were many drug addicts around his accommodation area, so he had the idea of trafficking this illegal substance. After returning to his hometown to buy drugs, Hao tried to take a bus to Hanoi but was arrested by the police.

On May 23, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Vi Van Hao (32 years old), residing in Muong Noc commune, Que Phong district (Nghe An) for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.

According to the case file, in 2024, Vi Van Hao went to study Taiwanese in Ha Dong District, Hanoi to prepare for going to work abroad. While studying the language there, Hao saw that there were many drug addicts around the area where he was staying, so he had the idea of returning to his hometown to trade this "item".

While visiting home, on November 4, 2024, Hao walked up to the tree-lined hill area to buy drugs. This young man bought more than 115 grams of drugs from an unknown person for nearly 40 million VND.

Two days later, Hao took the drugs and took a bus to Hanoi to sell. However, on the way, the police arrested him and the evidence.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. Hao confessed that because of greed, he traveled from Hanoi to Nghe An to buy drugs to resell.

Regarding the nearly 40 million VND that the defendant used to buy drugs, Hao stated that he saved it during his previous work at the company.

The defendant expressed remorse for his crime and asked the court to consider reducing his sentence so that he could soon return to his life and repay his parents.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions violated the law and were dangerous to society, so they needed to be dealt with severely to serve as a deterrent and preventative measure. However, it was also necessary to consider some mitigating circumstances for the defendant, such as his honest confession, remorse, and family members who had contributed to the revolution.

Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced the defendant Vi Van Hao to 20 years in prison for the crime of illegal drug trafficking. As for the drug seller, because the defendant’s personal background was unknown, the investigation agency had no basis to prosecute him.
