(Baonghean.vn) - Trung Kien village, Nghi Thiet commune (Nghi Loc) is not only famous for its hundreds of years of shipbuilding and many ancient historical and cultural relics, but this place also preserves unique and rare ancient features in the coastal villages of Nghe An.

With a long history of formation and existence, the people of Trung Kien village live at the foot of Chua mountain and along this mountain range quite densely. In the middle of the ancient coastal village, the longitudinal roads connecting the hamlets together and the winding cross roads leading to each house gate are quite narrow. Photo: Huy Thu
However, what impresses people when coming to Trung Kien fishing village is the narrow roads, many people feel like coming here is like coming to the old quarter in Hanoi. The village roads in these hamlets are not only narrow, but many places on both sides of the road still retain the mossy stone walls. Photo: Huy Thu
Due to the narrow garden area, in some places, the house wall and the fence are built together. On the fence wall is the house wall with windows opening onto the street. Some households also hang bamboo, canvas... making the street space even narrower. Photo: Huy Thu

Here, there are winding, narrow, deep village roads, seemingly only wide enough for one person to walk. Photo: Huy Thu

In the process of building new rural areas, many villages have expanded and upgraded spacious village roads, allowing cars and even trucks to enter and exit, while in the alleys of Trung Kien village, in many places "one motorbike can move, but two cannot avoid each other". Narrow village roads have been causing difficulties and complications for local people in traffic, business, production... Photo: Huy Thu

An interesting fact is that many households in Trung Kien village still preserve the ancient houses. Mr. Pham Ngoc Hang (66 years old) in Chua hamlet, Nghi Thiet commune said: The house his family is living in is built in the "tam oai tu tru" style, bought by his father from the highlands, and is nearly a hundred years old. After many renovations, re-roofing, and adding more floors, he still keeps the old house intact to live in and as a souvenir. Photo: Huy Thu
Some households still keep their old houses intact, but they expand them, build more rooms to make them larger, or connect them to multi-storey houses for convenience in living, working, and doing their jobs... Photo: Huy Thu
Walking through the ancient village, it is not difficult to see houses built of boulders and bluestones with small spaces. Although they have been renovated many times (covered with thatch, tiles, corrugated iron...), the stone walls are still intact. Photo: Huy Thu
Not only the roads and houses, but also the gates in Trung Kien village are stained with time. Currently, in Chua hamlet, Dinh hamlet, Nghi Thiet commune, there are dozens of gates that are over 80 years old. Photo: Huy Thu
Behind the ancient gates can be wooden houses, old brick houses or spacious, modern multi-storey houses. The precious thing is that the old gates are preserved in a harmonious, beautiful neoclassical architectural space, following the viewpoint of "the present respects the past, the past beautifies the present" Photo: Huy Thu
Some old gates built before the August Revolution are preserved by families, preserving their original form, only adding layers of paint to match the fence or new structures. A resident in Dinh hamlet, Nghi Thiet commune said: Preserving the gates of ancient houses and churches is not only to affirm the longevity of the structure, but also to help future generations learn about ancient architecture, think about the past, about the traditions of the family, homeland, and clan.
