Neymar unfollows Cavani on social media
The world's most expensive player appeared to be angry with his teammates after a failed penalty shootout on Sunday.
After the match against Lyon at the weekend, Neymar unfollowed Edinson Cavani on Instagram. Among the more than 700 accounts that the Brazilian striker is following, there are many other PSG players such as Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler, and even reserve goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. But Cavani's account is no longer on Neymar's list, as it was a few days ago.
Cavani and Neymar seemed to have a disagreement in the 79th minute of the match against Lyon. When Mbappe won a penalty for the home team, Cavani held the ball and prepared to take the free kick. Neymar stepped in front of him, indicating that he wanted to take the shot. But Cavani did not give in, causing the Brazilian striker to get angry and walk away.
A few minutes earlier, PSG had been awarded a free kick from about 20 metres. Dani Alves held on to the ball tightly, refusing to give it to Cavani, who was begging for the ball to take the kick. Instead, Alves gave the shot to his compatriot and close brother Neymar.
Get French Football reported on Twitter that Cavani was very angry after the match. The Uruguayan striker also left early, 20 minutes after the match ended, without meeting his teammates in the post-match meeting.
Combined with Neymar unfollowing Cavani on social media, fans cannot help but suspect that there is a power struggle at PSG, between old forces like Cavani and the new star with the highest transfer fee in the world.
“Neymar and Cavani have a disagreement,” said coach Unai Emery. “I spoke to them and told them to sort it out.”
Cavani and Neymar both failed to score in PSG's 2-0 win over Lyon.
