Neymar sues Barca to FIFA for missing $30 million signing-on fee

PSG's new player has prepared enough documents to sue his old team to FIFA for intentionally breaking the agreement signed in October 2016.

Neymar renewed his contract with Barca in October 2016. He agreed to stay at the Nou Camp until the summer of 2021, with a $263 million buyout clause. The contract included a clause that would see Neymar and his agent, his father Neymar Sr., receive a $30 million signing-on fee if they did not leave by July 31, 2017.

But according to Globo Esporte, the Brazilian striker has not received this amount, even though he transferred to PSG last week. He and his father, Neymar Sr., decided to bring this issue to FIFA.

Barca spokesman Josep Vives told reporters: "There are three things to clarify about this fee. One, Neymar did not negotiate with any other club before July 31. Two, he made his decision public to try to collect this amount. Three, the payment will be made on September 1, to ensure that Neymar does not move elsewhere."

"With these criteria, Barca will not pay Neymar as a signing-on fee, in the renewal last year," Vives emphasized.

Although Barca announced Neymar's departure on August 3, the former Santos player has not yet completed the procedures to play for PSG. Currently, the La Liga Organizing Committee has not transferred the International Transfer Certificate to Ligue 1 so that the 25-year-old striker can register to play.

The Brazilian star missed the Ligue 1 opening game against Amiens on Saturday, August 5. If the transfer certificate is not sent to the Ligue 1 organizing committee today, August 10, Neymar will miss the second round, against Guingamp on August 13.

One way PSG could get the world's most expensive player on the pitch is to go directly to FIFA, bypassing La Liga. Neymar and his father, who is also his agent, are considering this option. They have just asked for the missing $30 million signing-on fee and have already completed the transfer registration process.
