(Baonghean.vn) - On February 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused some Western countries of wanting to maintain a terrorist hideout in Idlib province (Syria).

Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Lavrov stated: "There is information that some Western countries want to do exactly that. They want a place where the terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra controls more than 90% of the territory to become a participant in the future political process. It is clear that there can be no negotiations with terrorists. Our Western partners constantly demonstrate double standards, so I cannot rule out the possibility that the information I mentioned is well-founded."

Russia's top diplomat also reiterated the substance of the agreements between the Russian and Turkish leaders regarding the de-escalation zone in Idlib.

"The agreement requires separating the opposition interested in normal dialogue with the Syrian government from the terrorists, so the goal is to isolate and continue to destroy terrorism. No agreement envisions maintaining a terrorist base on Syrian territory," Lavrov explained.
