This was the Russian diplomat's reaction to the move by Ukraine's Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan when he made the statement that "once again, there will be a Ukrainian flag flying over the city of Vladivostok, just like 100 years ago".
Quoting Ukrainian officials, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova stressed that the idea was "crazy"; at the same time, recalling that 100 years ago, in 1918-1919, Vladivostok was occupied by the army of Czechoslovakia, the United States, Japan, Canada and a number of other countries.
"The phrase of Ukrainian politicians 'and this is like 100 years ago' does not actually belong to Ukraine, but in principle refers to the flags of the countries that once occupied this region. The concept of the European 'space of peaceful cooperation from Lisbon to Vladivostok' has been distorted through Ukraine," Maria Zakhavora emphasized.
On August 20, after a meeting with Russian President Putin, French leader Macron wrote on his personal Facebook page in Russian, affirming the progress in Russia-France cooperation in political and economic aspects.
French President Macron made a remarkable statement: “Russia is a European country and we believe in a Europe that stretches from Lisbon to Vladivostok.” Mr. Macron also confidently declared that he was “ready to work with Russia to shape the security structure between Russia and Europe,” and affirmed that France was seeking to “revive” trust between the EU and Russia.
