At a press conference at the international multimedia conference, the press center "Russia Today" on September 6, Andrei Kaprin, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctor-in-chief of the Institute of Oncology of the Ministry of Health, Director General of the National Medical Research Center of Radiology, said that preclinical studies of the Russian anti-cancer vaccine have been completed.

“We have passed the preclinical stage. Now there is an official dispatch sent to the Ministry of Health to allow us to proceed with the first testing phase,” said scientist Kaprin.

He added that, as soon as the Ministry of Health grants permission, a recruitment notice for volunteers with medical indications will be posted on the website. Experts will decide whether to participate in the trial or not.

As Kaprin said in early July 2024, cancer vaccines based on mRNA technology are a promising development. The mRNA technology base is the technology that drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna have used to produce vaccines against COVID-19.

The essence of this anti-cancer vaccine is to collect tumor material from the patient, analyze its characteristics and create a tumor profile, which is then used for a personalized vaccine. The new vaccine can be used for any type of cancer.

"They will be individual, tailored to each specific person. This technology can create in the cell a very large concentration of the target antigen - the protein that the vaccine developer has encoded in mRNA. This is necessary to show the immune system of a person with cancer how to distinguish healthy cells from malignant cells," - explains the head of the Gamaleya Institute, Aleksandr Gintsburg.

The new Russian announcement comes ahead of the 7th International Forum on Cancer and Radiotherapy “For Life”, which will be held on September 16-20.
