Russia calls for ending the spiral of violence in the Middle East as soon as possible
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called for an end to the spiral of violence in the Middle East as soon as possible.

Speaking at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on September 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia calls for an immediate end to the spiral of violence in the Middle East amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
“It is necessary to stop the spiral of violence before the situation gets completely out of control. Some people really want and are trying to provoke a major war,” Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
The diplomat called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in the region to prevent further bloodshed. This, Lavrov said, “will create conditions for a political and diplomatic solution.”
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has strongly condemned Israel's attacks on Lebanon.
“We strongly condemn the actions of the Israeli side, which are a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty. Indiscriminate attacks on civilians are unacceptable. The path of war chosen by West Jerusalem will not help Israeli citizens who fled to the north to return home. Tel Aviv will not guarantee security in the Lebanese ‘Israeli border zone’,” Lavrov added.
According to Lavrov, the spiral of violence has gone far beyond the Arab-Israeli confrontation, destabilizing the situation in the Mediterranean Sea, the Persian Gulf, and the entire North Africa. This conflict also affects other areas of the region, including the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Mr. Lavrov said that the unresolved Palestinian issue remains at the root of these processes.
“Amidst the conflict and the Israeli blockade of the region, the situation is rapidly deteriorating. Israeli military operations have completely changed the concept of the conflict in the direction of “inhumanity and deprivation of civilians,” Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stressed.
For his part, Foreign Minister Lavrov said that Russia is making active diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent the most catastrophic scenario.
Also at the Security Council meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and ensuring Lebanon's sovereignty, especially after Israel's bombing attack on Lebanon on September 27.
“First of all, war and conflict must not continue. A complete ceasefire must be achieved immediately,” Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
