On January 3, First Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council (Upper House) of Russia Frants Klintsevich said that the US should not compare the size of the nuclear button with North Korea.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Klintsevich emphasized: "I think that the United States, as a great power, should not compare with North Korea in terms of the size of the nuclear button, and this is not an argument that can convince North Korean leader Kim Jong-un."
According to the Russian senator, the US should offer stronger advantages, which are clear thinking and responsibility.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump responded to the statement of theNorth Korean leaderKim Jong-un said the nuclear button is always on his desk, and asked the North Korean people to inform their leader that the US leader also has such a button, but it is “bigger and works.”
The situation on the Korean peninsula once again became tense in late November last year when Pyongyang test-launched the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile.
Pyongyang claims this missile can carry a nuclear warhead and has a range that can cover the entire US territory.
In response, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution tightening sanctions on North Korea, imposing new restrictions on the supply of crude oil and oil products to North Korea, as well as requiring all countries to expel all North Korean workers within 24 months.
